PlayStation®3 System Software Update Version

4.00 2011-11-30

PS3™ system software version 4.00 was released on November 30, 2011. Version 4.00 adds or updates the following features.



PlayStation®Network

Main features in system software update version 4.00

■ PlayStation®Vita system compatibility
You can now copy content such as music, video and image data, and games and other applications, from the PS3™ system to the PS Vita system and vice versa. You can also back up the data saved in the PS Vita system to the PS3™ system hard disk. You can also update the system software for your PS Vita system using the network features of the PS3™ system.

To use these features, connect the PS3™ system and the PS Vita system with a USB cable. Operations are done from the PS Vita system.

  • Settings
    [Delete PS Vita System’s Backup Files] has been added as a feature under @(System Settings).
  • Game [PS Vita System Application Utility] has been added.

Other new or revised features in version 4.00


Setting
  • Upscaler output and Cinema conversion are now supported for Blu-ray Disc™ (BDMV) content.
    "Blu-ray Disc™"and "Blu-ray™" are trademarks of the Blu-ray Disc Association.
  • You can now select the items you want to update under   (System Settings) > [Automatic Update].
    This feature is exclusively for use by PlayStation®Plus members.
  • [English (United Kingdom)] and [Portuguese (Brazil)] have been added as options under  (Settings) >   (System Settings) > [System Language].

PlayStation®Network
  •  (Privacy Settings) has been added as a feature under   (Account Management).



Settings

Deletion of the PS Vita system's backup files

[Delete PS Vita System’s Backup Files] has been added as a feature under   (Settings) >   (System Settings) PS Vita system backup files that are being managed by a logged in user can be deleted.

  
  • File contents cannot be confirmed from a PS3™ system.

Supports upscaler for BDMV playback

Upscaling output for Blu-ray Discs recorded in BDMV formats, such as commercially available Blu-ray video software (BD-ROM), is now supported.

Blu-ray Discs recorded in BDMV formats are always played in the [Normal] mode under   [Settings]> [Video Settings]>[BD/DVD Upscaler]. Regardless of the resolution of the content being played, video is always output in the maximum resolution in [Display Settings].


The setting in [BD/DVD Cinema Conversion] under  (Settings) >  (Video Settings) can now be used for BDMV playback.

  • 3D image is output in the original resolution.

 


Automatic update

You can now select the update options under   (Settings) >  [System Settings] > [Automatic Update].

This feature is exclusively for use by PlayStation®Plus members.

    Download game patches
    Download the latest system software
    Download recommended games and videos
    Sync trophy information with the server
  • The [Upload saved data to online storage] option must be set for each game. This option cannot be set up under this setting.
  • Set to [Off] to cancel all selected automatic update options.

 




Game

PS Vita system application utility


 [PS Vita System Application Utility] has been added as a feature under  (Game).
When you back up the saved data of games played on the PS Vita system, or application data (game data), from the PS Vita system to the PS3™ system, the data is saved in the PS Vita system application utility.





PlayStation®Network

Privacy settings

 (Privacy Settings) has been added as a feature under  (PlayStation®Network) >  (Account Management). You can set the range for receiving friend requests or messages.
