Doesn't the PS2 support Dolby and DTS? Why is it when I connect the PS2 with an optical cable to a speaker set to support DTS or AC-3, the Dolby and DTS functions cannot be executed properly?

Please ensure first that the sound settings of the PS2 have been set to enable "DTS" or "Dolby Digital". The steps are:

  1. Insert a DVD into the PS2 console, wait until the DVD starts to run and then press the START button on the controller to access the DVD control menu which will be displayed on the screen.
  2. Use the direction buttons on the controller to search for a Setup option. Choose it and you will see four choices at the top row.
  3. Choose the rightmost option, "Audio setup", and set "DIGITAL OUT (OPTICAL)" to "ON" and then set either "DTS" or "Dolby Digital" to "ON".
