An update to the PSP® system software was made available on April 21, 2009. If you update your PSP® system, the system software will be version 5.50.

Network

Information Board


(Information Board) has been added under (PlayStation®Network). The information board displays news about games and the latest information about PlayStatio®Store.

• To use the information board, you must set your PSP® system to connect to the Internet.

Displaying news and information details
When you select  (Information Board) under (PlayStation®Network), the latest news and information related to PlayStation® is obtained from the Internet and displayed as a list.

Select an item from the list, and then press the O button. Depending on the content, either the PlayStation®Store screen will be displayed or the Internet browser will start, allowing you to view details about the selected item.

Setting the region for the information board
To set the region for the information board, select (Information Board) under (PlayStation®Network), press the △ button, and then select [Settings] from the options menu.

Overall

Folder levels that can be viewed

The number of folder levels that you can view under (Photo), (Music) and (Video) has been increased.

Music files example

When music files are stored on Memory Stick Duo™ media with the directory structure shown in the diagram, the files contained in the second level subfolders under [MUSIC] can now be viewed from the XMB™ menu.

PlayStation®Network

Access to PlayStation®Store

You can now access PlayStation®Store without having a PlayStation®Network account. Before signing up for a PlayStation®Network account, you can browse content such as games or demos that are available on PlayStation®Store.

Accessing PlayStation®Store

Select  (PlayStation®Store) under (PlayStation®Network). Follow the on-screen instructions to enter information for the required items, [Country/Region of Residence], [Language], and [Date of Birth].



Signing up for a PlayStation®Network account

If you select the control buttons at the top right of the screen, attempt to download content, or add content to your shopping cart, the sign-up screen will be displayed. Follow the on-screen instructions to sign up for a PlayStation®Network account.

Downloading games

Less free space is now required when downloading games from PlayStation®Store to Memory Stick Duo™ media.

Previously, it was necessary to have free space on the Memory Stick Duo™ equal to twice the size of the game to be downloaded. With system software version 5.50, you can now download games from PlayStation®Store to Memory Stick Duo™ media if there is free space equal to the size of the content to be downloaded.
