PlayStation®3 System Software Update Version

3.00 2009-09-01

An update to the PS3™ system software was released on September 1, 2009. You can use this update to upgrade your system software to version 3.00.



Overall

New design for the XMB™(XrossMediaBar) screen

The XMB™ screen has been redesigned. The background color and the size of text characters have been changed to make the XMB™ screen easier to use.

  • If you want to display the original screen design, select [Classic] under (Settings) > [Theme Settings] > [Theme].

Information panel

An information panel has been added on the upper right of the screen. You can view information such as the number of Friends who are online, notice about new messages and the latest information that is available under [What's New].

Overall

Folder levels

The number of folder levels that can be displayed under (Photo), (Music) and (Video) has been increased. If you save your data in storage media using a folder structure such as the one shown below (using music files as an example), content saved in the second-level folders will be displayed on the XMB™ screen.

Copying text

You can now copy text using the on-screen keyboard. You can use this feature to copy text on a screen from which the on-screen keyboard is displayed, such as the screen for creating a message under (Friends).

New keys on the on-screen keyboard

  Copy text.
  Paste the copied text.



Copying and pasting text

  1. Press the button on the text field that contains the text that you want to copy.
    The on-screen keyboard is displayed.
  2. Select , and then follow the on-screen instructions to select the text that you want to copy from the screen that is displayed.

  3. Select the field in which you want to paste the text.
    The on-screen keyboard is displayed.
  4. Select , and then select the text to be pasted by pressing the button.

[Information Board] has been replaced by [What's New] and contains a new design and new features. You can check the
latest information from PlayStation®Store and check the content that you played recently as soon as you turn on the
PS3™ system. When you select an item under [What’s New], you can view detailed information about the item as well as
access PlayStation®Store. If the item is a game, you can start the game from that screen by pressing the START button.

  Start the Internet browser to view a Web page.
  Access PlayStation®Store.
  Play video.
  Start a game.
  • To view the latest information, the PS3™ system must be connected to the Internet.
  • Some games cannot be started from the [What’s New] screen.


Settings

Audio Multi-Output

[Audio Multi-Output] has been added as an option under [Sound Settings]. With this feature you can set to have audio be output to the HDMI OUT connector, the DIGITAL OUT (OPTICAL) connector, and the AV MULTI OUT connector
simultaneously without having to manually adjust the connections on the devices in use.

Off Disable the multi-output feature.
On Enable the multi-output feature.
  • Audio output to connectors that are not selected in (Settings) > [Sound Settings] > [Audio Output Settings] is
    downscaled to 2 channels.
  • If [HDMI] is selected in   (Settings) >  [Sound Settings] > [Audio Output Settings], audio output to HDMI connector will be restricted as follows:
    -    Maximum output for Linear PCM is restricted to 5.1ch, 44.1/48kHz or below.
    -    Audio cannot be output in Dolby TrueHD、Dolby Digital Plus、DTS-HD supported by CECH-2000 series.
  • If [Optical Digital] is selected in   (Settings) >  [Sound Settings] > [Audio Output Settings], audio output to optical digital connector will be restricted as follows:
    -    Maximum output for Linear PCM is restricted to 44.1/48kHz or below.

HDD Content Audio Language / HDD Content Subtitle Language

[HDD Content Audio Language] and [HDD Content Subtitle Language] have been added as options under [Video Settings]. You can now specify the language for audio content and the subtitle language to be used when playing content that is saved on storage media, such as downloaded content from PlayStation®Store.

  • Depending on the content, you may not be able to specify the audio or subtitle language.


Video

Using the wireless controller for fast forward and fast reverse operations

You can now use the right stick of the wireless controller to perform fast forward or fast reverse operations during video
content playback. You can control the playback speed by changing the way you rotate the right stick.

Press upward, and then turn clockwise
Slow (forward) -> fast forward
Press upward, and then turn counter-clockwise
Slow (reverse) -> fast reverse

Printing a Web page


You can now print a Web page in the Internet browser. To print a page, open the browse mode menu, and then select
(File) > [Print This Screen].

  • To use this feature, you must first set up a printer by selecting (Settings) > [Printer Settings] > [Printer
    Selection].

Saving a Web page as an image



In the Internet browser, you can now save the visible area of a Web page as an image. To save as an image, open the
browse mode menu, and then select (File) > [Save Screenshot]. The screenshot will be stored under (Photo).



Friends

Viewing messages in the profile screen


A list of messages that you have exchanged with a Friend can be now accessed from the Friend’s profile screen. Select
(Message List) in the profile screen of a Friend. The list of messages will be displayed.
