PSP® System Software Update

PSP® System Software Update Version

6.10 2009-10-01

An update to the PSP® system software was made available on October 1, 2009. If you update your PSP® system, the system software will be version 6.10.



Main features updated in system software ver 6.10


(PlayStation®Network)
  •  [Memory Stick™] has been added as a save destination for content that is downloaded from (PlayStation®Store). 

(Game)
  •  [Update] has been added to the options menu for games.
    By selecting this option, you can connect your system to the Internet and check whether update data is available for the game in use. If update data is available, you can use this option to download and install the update data.

(Setting)
  • In [Display Panel Close Options] under (System Settings), the design for the [Standard] theme has been changed.
 (Other)
  • The Dial-up Networking (DUN) profile has been added as one of the supported Bluetooth® profiles. 

Newly added features in PlayStation®Store

On October 1st, 2009, a new category for ‘minigames’ called [minis] was added under  (PlayStation®Store). You can go to this category under  (PlayStation®Store) to download (purchase) minigames that can be played simply and easily on your system.

Music

Listening to music using (SensMe™ channels)

The SensMe™ channels application uses Sony's proprietary 12 Tone Analysis technology to evaluate music tracks that have been imported from "Media Go" to the PSP™ system. The application automatically categorizes the tracks into 12 channels such as “Relax” and “Dance”.
You can listen to the music by selecting a channel to match the time of day or your mood.


Available channels
Morning/Daytime/Evening/Night/Midnight Music for various times of the day
Shuffle All Music played in random order
Energetic Uptempo and high-energy music
Relax Calm and relaxing music
Mellow Soft and slow-tempo music
Upbeat Cheerful and uplifting music
Emotional Ballads
Lounge Jazz and easy listening music
Dance Rhythm, rap and R & B music
Extreme Loud and powerful music
Favourites Music tracks that have been selected to be added to the Favourites channel
Newly Added Music tracks that were imported recently

Using the SensMe™ channels application
To use the SensMe™ channels application on your PSP™ system, you must first download the application to your system.

Using a Bluetooth® device (mobile phone) to connect the PSP™ system to the Internet

The Dial-up Networking (DUN) profile has been added as one of the supported Bluetooth® profiles. You can use a Bluetooth® device (such as a mobile phone) as a modem to connect your PSP™ system to the Internet.

Notices
  • If you use this feature to connect your system to the Internet, you may be charged for fees related to the Internet use or connection. Check your service provider's rate plan charges in advance. Your service provider’s flat rate plan may not cover an Internet connection using Bluetooth®, and additional charges may apply depending on download size and connection time.
  • To use this feature, the Bluetooth® device you use must also support the DUN profile.


Setting up the Internet connection

1. Select  (Settings) > (Bluetooth® Device Settings) > [Manage Bluetooth® Devices] to register a Bluetooth® device (such as a mobile phone).
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the registration.
2. Select (Settings) >  (Network Settings), and then select [Infrastructure Mode].
3. Select [New Connection].
4. Select [Bluetooth® Modem].
5. Select the Bluetooth® device that you registered in step 1.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the operation.
  

Connecting to the Internet
When connecting your system to the Internet, a list of available connections will be displayed. Select the connection that you set to use with the registered Bluetooth® device.



Disconnecting from the Internet
1. Select (Settings) > (Bluetooth® Device Settings) > [Manage Bluetooth® Devices].
2. Select the Bluetooth® device that is connected, and then press the △ button.
3. Select [Disconnect] from the options menu that is displayed.

Hint
When registering a mobile phone as a Bluetooth® device, you may be requested to enter information such as [Dial-up Number] or [User Name]. If you do not know this information, contact the service provider for your mobile phone.
