Our first destination was everyone’s dream location – the Uyuni Salt Flat in Bolivia, South America. We successfully filmed for 12 hours without interruption, the world’s first ever 15K omnidirectional footage during new moon at the end of the rainy season in early March. When the winds stopped blowing, thin layer of water created an amazing mirror reflection of the numerous stars and nebulae.
We then visited the Paranal Observatory in the Atacama Desert in Chile. As 4 Very Large Telescopes observed the movements of the stars, the center section of the Milky Way appeared.
High resolution omnidirectional camera system MAKIBISHI
The high resolution omnidirectional camera system MAKIBISHI and the controlling device designed by us allowed a maximum of 12 hours of time-lapse shooting of 360-degree surrounding scenery and a horizontal viewing angle of 260 degrees from the zenith to the foot of the camera.
This footage uses original music written by composers Shiho Terada, Ippei Inoue and Kazune Hirai for “Cosmic Front Next.”
